8 Things to Do With Your Dog This Summer

Summer is finally here! Many of us are enjoying the warm weather, and are looking forward to fun summer activities. Our canine friends also love summer. In fact, summertime is a great chance for you and your pet to have some fun together! Below, a Coon Rapids, MN vet lists some things to do with Fido this summer.

Have A Photo Shoot

Summer’s golden light can make for some absolutely adorable doggy photos. Shoot at dawn or dusk to get that beautiful golden light.

Host A Puppy Party

Invite a few friends or family members with gentle, friendly dogs to come over and play with Fido. Offer your furry visitors yummy doggy treats, and have a potluck or barbeque for your human pals. Just make sure all of your four-legged guests are current on their vaccines and parasite control.

Go To The Vet

We know, this probably wouldn’t be Fido’s top choice for fun summer activities, but proper veterinary care is crucial to his health!

Go Somewhere New

Our canine friends love to visit new places. Take Fido to a park, or explore a new hiking trail with him. Just be sure to put safety first: stay up-to-date with your pup’s vaccines and parasite control, and keep him leashed, except in fenced doggy playgrounds.

Enjoy A Cold Snack

Nothing beats a delicious ice cream on a sweltering afternoon! Pick up some doggy ice cream for your furry friend at a local pet store, or make your own out of plain yogurt, peanut butter, and ripe bananas.

Splash Around

If you have a pool, let Fido enjoy it. Just make sure he knows where the stairs are. No pool? Get a kiddie pool for your pooch to play in on hot days.

Play Some Games

Fetch may be Fido’s favorite game, but there are lots of other options. Try a dog-friendly version of Simon Says, using commands like Stay or Come. Or enjoy a round of tag with your canine buddy: take turns chasing Fido, and having him chase you.

Your dog’s love and loyalty are truly precious gifts. Enjoy some downtime with Fido. Talk to him, play with him, rub that furry belly, and take some nice long walks together.
