5 Ways To Pamper Your Pet On International Cat Day

August 8th is International Cat Day! We really don’t need much of a reason to advocate pampering pets, so we’re happy to shine some light on this special kitty occasion. This is a great time to score some extra purrs! Read on as a Coon Rapids, MN vet offers tips on getting Fluffy’s motor going.

Toys

Keeping your kitty happy and entertained is very important! Get a few new toys for your cat. There are some really cute modern playthings available. Your furball may enjoy catnip bubbles or an automated laser pointer. You can also give your pet a remote-controlled mouse, or a fun mechanical toy. Of course, Fluffy may be just as happy with a cardboard box or a crumpled-up piece of paper. You just never know with cats!

Veterinary Appointment

We know, Fluffy would much rather take another nap than visit us. (We don’t take it purrsonally.) Coming to see us is definitely in your cat’s best interest. Kitties are both healthier and safer with regular veterinary care. Make an appointment for your pet today!

Kitty Garden

While cats are definitely much safer living indoors, they do enjoy getting a little taste of nature. Set out some pet-safe plants for Fluffy to sniff at and nibble on. You can find more suggestions online at the ASPCA website.

Treats

While some kitties are quite finicky, and don’t much care for snacks, others will go to extremes to get tasty treats. You really can’t go wrong giving your cat a can of tuna or chicken in water. Fluffy can also have some cooked, plain meat, chicken, or fish, without the bones or fat; sodium-free broth; or some shredded deli meat. Dairy isn’t a good choice, but you can give your furball cat milk, which is sold in many pet stores.

Purrniture

One great way to activate Fluffy’s purr is to offer her some furniture that was made to suit her specific needs. Cat towers are great, as they provide a jungle gym, kitty lookout spot, nail care station, and a lounging pad, all in one. You can also give your furry pal a pet tent or tipi. Beds are another good option. Cats just can’t have too many napping spots!
